Module 1 — Introduction to Databases What is a database, DBMS vs file systems, types of databases, DBMS architecture (3-tier).
Module 2 — Entity-Relationship Model ER diagrams, entities, attributes, relationships, cardinality, weak entities, EER diagrams.
Module 3 — Relational Model Tables, keys (primary, foreign, candidate), relational algebra, tuple calculus.
Module 4 — Structured Query Language (SQL) DDL, DML, DCL — CREATE, SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, JOINs, subqueries, views, stored procedures, triggers.
Module 5 — Normalization Functional dependencies, 1NF, 2NF, 3NF, BCNF, decomposition and lossless joins.
Module 6 — Transaction Management ACID properties, serializability, concurrency control, locks, deadlocks, timestamp ordering.
Module 7 — Indexing & Query Optimization B-trees, B+ trees, hashing, query execution plans, cost estimation.
Module 8 — NoSQL & Modern Databases Document stores (MongoDB), key-value stores, CAP theorem, introduction to cloud databases.
